March's birchbox was a bit of an improvement from last month's box, which was so unimpressive that I passed on blogging about it. This month's box featured some slightly more interesting products including, Peter Thomas Roth's max anti-shine mattifying gel, Essie's set in stones top coat, Tarte's lipsurgence in peaceful, a twistband hair tie, and coupon for modcloth.com.
The anti-shine mattifying gel came in handy today for keeping my shine at bay while walking around Soho in the beautiful weather. It is a nice product that does seem to lessen the oil buildup on my face and instantly smooths your face after applying it. However, I'm not sure I would repurchase the full size, as I feel the l'oreal magic perfecting base does something similar for a fraction of the price.
The two products that I was most excited about when I opened the box were the nail polish and the lip tint
I was surprised that they included a full size of this, seeing that it retails for $24. I was less impressed once I actually tried the product - it gives practically no color on me and is more or less a fancy lip balm.
The nail polish I have not tried, but am looking forward to because coincidentally a few days earlier I saw this polish and made a mental note to try it someday.
This is my final birchbox that was given to me as a gift. I probably will not be starting a subscription of my own because as much as I am in love with the idea, the actual "product" leaves something to be desired. It is very hit or miss and because of that the excitement usually lasts from when I receive the box in the mail, to the moment I open the box and examine its contents. Maybe one day I will be sucked back into this subscription service, but for now I will save myself 10 bucks a month and get my samples the old fashioned way - by asking someone behind the counter.

I just got my first Birchbox this month and I received the lip tint and nail polish as well. I got different colors though and my lip tint is a bright pink which definitely shows up on my lips haha. I got a perfume sample instead of the mattifying gel though. I'm satisfied with my Birchbox and I'll be continuing my subscription for a few more months to see if I like it. It seems to be really hit or miss based on other boxes I've seen though :(
ReplyDeleteOhh that hot pink lip tint sounds nice, wish I got a color that would actually show up on my lips!
DeleteWhoa full size. Not a bad deal.
ReplyDeleteIt sucks that the lip colour doesn't show AND that it's a full sized product - no chance in finishing now I guess. The nail polish is gorgeous! Australian beauty boxes aren't as good as this tbh. :(
ReplyDeleteOh god not the twistband hair tie again. The last time they included this I cancelled my subscription. I'm not in love with Birchbox.
ReplyDeleteThe essie nail polish is cute!
ReplyDeleteCan you do a swatch post of that Essie polish sometime? I really want to see what their effects polish come out like!
ReplyDeleteSome really nice products in this one! Especially the polish and the Tarte lip tint, though it's too bad that it wasn't more pigmented.
ReplyDeleteThey really did step it up this month (though I'm sure that's because Teen Vogue was behind the box), but it's a bummer that the lip tint didn't provide more color, especially since Spring is coming up! The polish is gorgeous, though!
ReplyDeleteThe Essie top coat looks amazing, hopefully it's just not clear glitters...
ReplyDeleteso subscribing to carmine right now!
ReplyDeleteHur...it looks really nice but like you said, just not enough to justify a full on subscription. I just subscribed to new glossy box for Canada and am still waiting for march box to arrive...i think maybe, I won't continue doing any of these monthly things anymore :/
ReplyDeleteI got the same color this month and I wasn't a fan. It was too light for my skin tone and kinda looked like concealer. It also was melted too =(
ReplyDeleteEssie's set in stones is really pretty.....

I tried to sign up for BirchBox today but they said they would e-mail me when a subscription became available :( Then I tried to gift a subscription for three months - same thing! I had never wanted to become a BirchBox subscriber until I saw this month's box...what was in last months? Is it worth it, in your opinion?

Yea, I heard there is a waiting list now. It's getting so popular! I personally don't think that I will be resubscribing. It is really fun to get in the mail, but I would rather purchase products that I know I am going to love
DeleteThis nail polish is fantastic:)) love the colour!!
